Ansh
5 years old Ansh lives with his parents in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. His father works as a marketing executive and mother is a housewife. He came for assessment on 19.07.2023.
Initial assessment findings suggested that he has Cerebral Palsy with quadriplegia. He had good understanding but poor posture, muscle tightness, limited hand functions (reach, grasp) and used his eyes for communicating needs. He vocalizes only through sounds. In front of strangers due to travel anxiety he did not wish to leave his mother and parents were finding it difficult to get him enrolled in school.
His sessions started in early intervention by focusing on physiotherapy, correcting his posture, reducing tightness preventing deformities. Meanwhile, special education was on working on his behaviour management, pre-academic and activities of daily living such as eating skills. Initially, he was not cooperative during sessions and used to cry, but as mother was keen to be trained, programming was explained to her so that it can be followed at home as well.
He responded well to it and progressed well. He tried using his hands, also splints for lower limb were given to him to make him stand. Over the time, there is improvement in behaviour, has no anxiety now for strangers while travelling, follows instructions and expresses his basic needs. He has also developed pre-concepts of reading, writing and attends group session as well.
The plan for next two years is to prepare him for mainstream school.
