OUR FOCUS
Fulfilling Our Mission
Currently, RAPHAEL strives to fulfil its mission through three thematic in-house programmes as under:
SPECIAL EDUCATION (SE) PROGRAMME
The objective of the programme is to generate awareness about disability related issues; to identify and assess children and young adults with intellectual & developmental disabilities; to educate & train them to realize their potential and facilitate their rehabilitation in the family and community. The activities are carried out both on and off campus. The focus on campus is on the development of functional academic, language and communication, daily living, house-hold, domestic & vocational skills. On campus facilities and services include: • Two assisted independent living units that provide a simulated ‘home’ environment for young adults. • Residential facilities, separate for male and female. • A day school that includes class rooms, a library, a computer laboratory, vocational training facilities, sports and other co-curricular activities. • The Therapeutic Centre provides physiotherapy, speech therapy, psychological assessments and counselling, school readiness and early intervention services; and a Resource room that provides suggestions, ideas and information for stake-holders. • The Training Centre runs professional courses and in-house training for teachers, parents, other stake-holders and members of the staff. The Outreach Programmes constitutes our off-campus activities, to cover both Dehradun district and the other districts of Uttarakhand. The programmes include awareness sessions, early intervention centres, itinerant teachers to government primary schools and also district support centres, currently in two districts.
Out Patient Department (OPD) Clinic
Treatment of Tuberculosis. Raphael is a government designated Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS) Centre. Its TB Control Programme is run in accordance with guidelines laid down in the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP).
General Outpatient Department. The OPD provides services including testing and medicines at a nominal fee for persons from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
LIFELONG CARE PROGRAMME
The objective of the Life-long Care Programme is to provide a life of dignity to persons with disability.
The Life-long Care Programme is a legacy of the past. When RAPHAEL first started it began by caring for Leprosy Cured Patients rescued off the streets. However if leprosy is diagnosed early it is completely curable and hence we no longer admit patients.
